The newest ghost tours thrill you, the crackle of spiritual electricity in the air excites you, and you’ve always wanted to spend a weekend in a haunted house. Face it, you’re into ghostly activity. If you consider yourself a ghost hunter, of sorts, then chances are you’re also into a little bit of haunted travel.
Around the world there are several destinations that seem to be a hotbed for spectral activity. We’re talking major ghost mojo in some of these places, thus crowning them: The Country’s Most Haunted Places ever. So dust off your suitcase, and get ready for some hauntingly enjoyable locations.
1. Moundsville Penitentiary – If the idea of walking around an abandoned prison sets your hair on end-in a good way- then this is the spot for you. Moundsville Penitentiary is located in West Virginia and housed some of the country’s most violent criminals for over 100 years. The doors closed for good in 1995, but the prison’s most tortured souls stuck around.
2. Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum – While you’re in West Virginia, you may as well stop at this little gem. Also known as Weston State Hospital, thousands of patients with varying levels of mental stability were housed here. Several hundred died before the asylum shut down in 1995, and the building’s civil war history provides some of the greatest ghost stories around.
3. Jerome, AZ – That’s right, this is an entire town supposedly haunting by the ghost of working girl, Sammie Dean. She is said to wander the old copper mining town on a nightly basis looking for her murderer. The town has only 400 residents, but there are plenty more people hanging around.
4. Fort Mifflin – The only remaining leftover from the revolutionary war, this battlefield consists of fourteen buildings that have been restored for tourist’s pleasure. This area is a hotspot for ghostly activity, so much so that the local police have been called to investigate complaints of a woman screaming, but anytime they arrive, there is no one to be found.
5. Villisca Axe Murder House – The name of this one sort of gives it all away up front, but it was once that scene of a horrific crime. A man, his wife, their four children, and two other young girls were viciously murdered by an unknown man. These days, the house has been restored and people have reported seeing a man with an axe wandering the property.
If you’ve got a yen for ghostly visions, but don’t have the budget to take an extensive trip to chase them, come join us on one of our tours! You won’t be sorry!
