It’s the most wonderful time of the year…
Of course, that’s Krampus in the image above…but have you ever heard that classic holiday standard “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and thought, just why in the world is Andy Williams singing about “scary ghost stories” in a song about Christmas?
Turns out, Charles Dickens wasn’t the first to include ghosts in a yuletide tale…ghosts have been a part of year-end festivities for a long, long time, perhaps even pre-dating the very idea of Christmas. I could summarize for you further, but it might be best for you to simply read this lovely article from The Smithsonian about the haunted history of the solstice-time.
…and perhaps you’re looking for a unique holiday gift for that discerning, curious lover of history &/or the paranormal on your list? You’re in luck: Haunted Manhattan offers gift cards.
Now that we’ve brought up A Christmas Carol, let’s immediately move on. Not to disparage Mr. Dickens, of course, but you’re a perspicacious reader of taste, and if you’re like me, you’ve seen/heard/read A Christmas Carol more often than you can even remember…
And so, let us point you toward a list of other fun holiday ghost stories—from no less a source than The Paris Review, mind you!
Thank you for reading, and we look forward to seeing you (& your gift card recipients, too!) at an upcoming Haunted Manhattan tour.
Happy Haunted Holidays!
