HauntedVacation season is in full swing, and in this electronically dominated world it is getting more and more difficult to find new and exciting vacation spots. Some people pack the family car and head to the beach, while others hightail it into the mountain for total relaxation. There are the people that thrive on an action packed, non-stop thrill ride of a vacation, while others embrace doing absolutely nothing. However, there is something that may just please everyone, a haunted town!
Whether you’re a ghost fan or a history buff, haunted towns offer the best of both worlds, as a ghost hunt is enough to keep everyone entertained and off their phones for a little bit. These towns aren’t just okay with their ghost problems, they embrace them and it won’t be hard to find a local willing to share a tale or two.
• New York City – This fair city is a tourist favorite. It’s fully of activity, there’s plenty to do, and the food and shopping are out of this world. However, underneath the city’s glitz and glam, there are some residents with no plan to ever leave. If you’re not familiar with the city, or even if you are, one of our tours will hit the hot spots, and even share a tale or two of a celebrity ghost!
• New Orleans – New Orleans thrives on their city embracing the scary and macabre of it all. Being a melting pot of so many different religions, the city is brewing with tales of the dead.
From cemetery tours to psychic readings, tourists often choose to join the locals in celebrating the deceased that still call the Big Easy their home.
• Beaufort, NC – What is now present day Beaufort was the spot where Blackbeard ran his ship aground, so this tiny little NC is brewing with haunting stories. Once a hotspot for pirate activity, this waterfront town has embraced its heritage and thrives during the tourist season as people clamor into the restaurants trying to catch a glimpse of a ghost ship.
• Williamsburg, VA – One of the original English settlements, Williamsburg has a rich history that dates back to the sixteen hundreds. During the Civil War, the College of William and Mary was used as a hospital, and the city took some fire. Tourist destination, Colonial Williamsburg, will give you a glimpse at the historical side of things, and the locals will share a tale or two of the ones who still roam the streets.
• Salem, Mass – Salem has quite the history. Known for being the site of the witch trials in the late sixteen hundreds that ended in the execution of twenty people, Salem is bubbling and brewing with ghostly activity. It’s jam-packed with historical features and more than enough haunting stories to make your hair stand on end.
There are certainly a lot of cities in the U.S. that embrace their haunted reputation, but the aforementioned are some East Coast and Southern favorites. If you’re going to be hitting the NYC streets this summer, be sure to check out one of our tours, if you dare!
